If you had told Steve a year ago his job would be to choose music for film, he likely would have chuckled at you, maybe even let out a hearty guffaw. It was a far-fetched dream, a dream he wasn't even chasing as he was pawning his life away to The Man.
In a serendipitous turn of events, Steve ended up at One Spark managing the music. It all began when Greg moved to Austin last August and the two began sharing music – and more than that – a passion for music in film. That passion became a job a couple months thereafter when Jake and Greg started One Spark and asked him to come on as a music supervisor. The unique emphasis of music at One Spark makes his job simple: find the best possible music for film, and get it for free. All jokes!
Working with Balmorhea on this project was a dream for a thousand reasons. They had the same vision we did; they have scored for film previously and were the utmost professionals; they interpreted every vague musical idea we threw at them into a tear-jerking masterpiece in the span of a couple minutes; And most importantly, they became friends. When all those elements come together in a film, music becomes much more than music.
